McMillan and Young Shine as Panthers Overpower Lions

In a stunning display at Bank of America Stadium, Tetairoa McMillan and Bryce Young played pivotal roles in the Carolina Panthers’ 32-26 victory over the Detroit Lions. McMillan, showcasing exceptional skill and focus, hauled in 14 passes for 192 yards and scored two touchdowns. Bryce Young contributed significantly, throwing for 329 yards and leading the team on six scoring drives to help balance the Panthers’ seasonal record at 2-2.

Despite a challenging practice week where their connection seemed off, the duo managed to deliver an outstanding performance. “There were some misses, they had to work through some stuff — they had to talk through it,” said Panthers coach Dave Canales. By game time, their issues were resolved, leading to a stellar night. Bryce Young spoke highly of McMillan, indicating a deep trust in his abilities reinforced by continuous work during offseason and OTAs.

Detroit Lions coach, Dan Campbell, acknowledged McMillan’s impact early in the preparations. “We knew that he was going to be an issue,” Campbell remarked, indicating that the Lions anticipated McMillan’s heavy involvement in the game’s strategy, particularly following injuries to Panthers players Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette. This anticipation was reflected in McMillan’s performance, which was filled with effective runs and quick strikes.

The connection between McMillan and Young not only solidified their stats for the game but also echoed their potential long-term impact for the Panthers. With McMillan’s achievement of joining Steve Smith Sr. as one of the few Panthers to notch over 175 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a game, the stage is set for a promising season. As McMillan himself noted, the collaborative efforts and strategic input from offensive coordinator Brad Idzik played a crucial role in the team’s offensive execution.
